This is a much-needed drama with a sweet, romantic twist to counter the anger in the recently aired Love and Redemption and other open-ended dramas. It features a handsome new male lead who is making his debut, and it is also one of the many dramas that have been released recently. The story is consistent with cute and funny moments scattered throughout. The pace is good and the plot is not complicated. It is a very relaxing watch.
This is a story about the struggle for power in the palace. From the beginning, the antagonist is already known to the audience. Although unknown to the protagonists with no concrete evidence that all the mysteries and crimes they are trying to solve are connected to the antagonist, the end result does not surprise them.
Prince Qi (Zhang Ling He) is a wandering prince who does not hold political power. He has a good relationship with his younger brother, the emperor, but is the envy of his uncle who wants the throne. He disguises himself as a wealthy nobleman like Pei Zhao and often visits brothels. There, he meets and falls in love with Su Ci (Sebrina Chen), who disguises herself as a man working as a senior detective. Pei Zhao is patient, forgiving, compassionate, and protective of Su Ci. He is strategic and intelligent. Su Ci is honest, impartial, and detailed, which makes her a great detective. Together with their friends, medical talents, skilled swordsmen, and the best chefs, they form a great team with an enviable friendship. From episode 1, Pei Zhao and Su Ci begin to work hand in hand, solving crimes and uncovering larger conspiracies. They have never been apart since, wherever they go, they go together and everything they do, they do it together. It’s so heartwarming to see them together and trust each other. Any misunderstandings are resolved almost as soon as they arise because they are so loyal to each other. It’s really heartwarming to see a couple holding hands all the time.
I enjoyed Zhang Ling He’s performance in Pei Zhao / Prince of Qi. This is his first film, but his performance is beyond my expectations, more believable than many experienced actors. He has a beautiful face and a strong body. Playing a handsome man and then a devoted lover, Zhang Ling He’s performance is believable and endearing. I can’t help but stare at his handsome face all the time.
Su Xi has a call – to find out what happened seven years ago when her entire tribe was killed, leaving her the only survivor. Her investigative skills help her unravel the conspiracy and ultimately find justice for her tribe. Sebrina Chen has graced the set of several other dramas, and she looks very convincing, dressing up as a man. With a fake attitude, Sebrina Chen’s performance is real and amazing.
The second pair is probably the most lovable female couple. Their love for each other is unforgettable, and they help solve many crimes together. The other cast members are good-looking and great in their respective roles. The ending is fairly and justly concluded – good deeds are rewarded and evil is punished, and the couple lives happily ever after.
