Plot Summary
First of all, a shout out to all the fans, they are absolute gems when it comes to showcasing their acting skills in the comedy genre. This show is really funny (the 18th Prince's laugh is my favorite) and it's even better when the show itself knows it and doesn't take it too seriously. From the first episode, you'll be glued to the screen and watch every episode.
Li Yitong is simply made for this genre and Liu Yu Ning is at his best. (It's basically his year.) I just love the guy no matter what he does, whatever role he chooses or whatever song he sings. (Yes, I'm totally biased!)
The first ep explains everything - the sword triangle *cough* the love triangle that takes the storm and ML's struggle to claim the throne (really bloody) and they definitely have chemistry in this... literally 'cough'.
Now the best part of it is the music and lyrics that make me laugh out loud, which is especially unique in a historical drama. The scenes of FL trying to change the story and saying the same thing over and over again at 2x and 3x speed are really funny (that's the last thing that happens to her). I love how serious it is when it's called for with the perfect mix of comedy being the center of the plot and making up for what needs to be said... They got a big budget. Nothing looks cheap, it's all top notch and the fact that they used famous scenes from other popular dramas and repurposed them in a funny way is just over the top. Another thing that's commendable is the development of the supporting characters, no matter how small, but they try to develop all the characters and give them screen time, which I haven't seen in many dramas.
If you're a fan of 'Love of Tigers and Roses' and 'Eastern Fantasy' and another 'Extraordinary You' then this show will exceed your expectations as it includes everything that others lack. Overall it's now one of my favorite shows set in 2025 with a well thought out relocation plot that I've watched in a while. (Trust me, you won't be able to predict it, and it's amazing, it's done from start to finish, so throw your worries about a 'rushed ending' out the window. )
