Plot Summary
When I first came across Fake Princess, the title sounded cliche and tropey. I didn’t know the cast. I thought I would watch the first episode and then drop the series. To my surprise, not only did I not drop it, I actually enjoyed it.
She’s a thief and he’s the crown prince. She wants his binoculars so she steals them and they meet and later get married, not knowing the true identity of the person she’s marrying. He assumes she’s the granddaughter of the Prime Minister, who is his enemy and a mole planted by him (the Prime Minister). But despite suspicions and mistrust, they quickly fall in love and become inseparable. Everything they do is for each other. Never once betraying the other. Each is always there to save the other. As a viewer, it’s hard for me to put down such a warm story.
I love the character Chang Le (Yu Kai Xin/Eleanor Lee) - honest. wise, strong, humble, quick and intelligent. She is also unusually talented. Yu Kai Xin has a natural expression and body language on her that is perfect for the character of a thief she is portraying.
Li Che (Zhao Yi Qin) The Crown Prince is the most adorable Crown Prince I have ever seen. He doesn't have the usual sharp look of the Crown Prince we are used to. Instead, Li Che always has a blank face, a vague look, which makes the audience think that he is not smart. Maybe he is not as smart as his wife, but his dedication and perseverance captured us all. In front of Chang Le, Li Che is like a Teddy Bear - respectful, devoted, crazy and loving; he becomes a little boy, dependent and easy. Zhao Yi Qin is new to me, but his performance here is amazing, giving his character 100%.
My favorite scene of this couple is probably when they both desperately try to save the other from the 'poison' they both ingested. The honesty in each other is amazing and brings tears to my eyes. They are both so loyal to each other.
There are two incredibly well-developed couples here, Zhu Yan/Li Heng and Nong Yi/Gong Sun Mo. I always thought that Zhu Yan/Li Heng would have a sad ending, while Nong Yi/Gong Sun Mo would have a happy ending. With such beautiful events, it didn't end as I expected, and it was really painful to watch the loss.
The villain is a disgusting character. That said, Mr. Cham is a villain, and even more so when it comes to his beloved nephews. I laughed so hard at those scenes because they were so unexpected for his character. The stupidity and evil, but not very intelligent, make the villains fun and enjoyable to watch.
The wuxia scenes are well executed. The beautiful fighting moves, flowing hair, and flying costumes make the whole scene awe-inspiring to watch. It's amazing.
